Itaoca armchair: the sensitive sculpture representing Brazil at iSaloni 2025

Tresore Design was present at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, one of the world's most important design events, with the launch of the Itaoca Armchair, designed by award-winning Brazilian designer Sérgio Matos. The participation took place through the Design + Industry Program, an initiative of Abimóvel in partnership with ApexBrasil, as part of the Brazilian Furniture project, which promotes national design with innovation, identity and sophistication.

More than a piece of furniture, the Itaoca Armchair is a work of art. An inhabitable sculpture made from soapstone, a Brazilian raw material with low porosity and high durability. Its authorial and fluid design is an invitation to touch and look, where the ancient solidity of the stone is transformed into lightness and organicity.

Layers that tell a story

Developed exclusively by Sérgio Matos Studio for Tresore Design, the Itaoca Armchair brings together layers of time, memory and innovation. From the mineral past to contemporary technology, from raw material to the poetic gesture of design.

The name Itaoca, which in Tupi means "stone house" or "rock",  already carries the symbol of shelter, belonging and emotional comfort. The piece was born precisely from this idea: to welcome not only the body, but also the senses.

Design that pulses with emotion

When asked about the choice of stone as a raw material, Sérgio Matos shared:

"Working with a material that took thousands of years to form is a privilege. The stone has great power. It has the power to re-energize, to remove bad energy, it carries all this symbolism and all this power. Our job was to sculpt a block of rock and transform it into a light appearance, a piece that has fine corners, and this gives a lightness to a block of stone that is so beautiful in color, structure, in the nuances it forms. Being able to use this material really was a very good job, very beautiful to do."

In the designer's vision, Itaoca is the result of a dialog between the weight of the material and the lightness of the creative gesture. An armchair that goes beyond its physical function and awakens deeper sensations: tranquillity, belonging, contemplation.

Between hands and machines, art and precision

The Itaoca Armchair is also the result of a rigorous technical process: the sculpture is cut with diamond cutters, modeled three-dimensionally and finished with manual polishing, in a marriage of technological precision with artisanal care. Tresore Design, renowned for creating sculptural pieces from Brazilian natural stone, has created this piece as an exquisite example of its proposal to fuse design, art and sustainability.

A milestone in Brazilian design

As part of the fourth edition of the Design + Industry cycle, the launch of Itaoca at iSaloni 2025 represents the creative strength and excellence of Brazilian furniture on the international stage. The Brazilian Furniture project has been instrumental in bringing designers and industries closer together, boosting high value-added products with a Brazilian identity.

The Itaoca Armchair is a reflection of this integration: a synthesis between nature and man, between the ancestral past and the vision of the future.
